I should say COLD HARBIN, as the temperature frequently drops to -30c. The biggest ice and snow festival is held from 5 jan to 5 feb. For a tropical and delicate human being (as such ME), going to Harbin is an experience I'd never forget. Pardon the quali...

Birds (can fly low) for $10 or chicken (just run like hell) for $6. We bought 2 chickens and 1 bird. When the guy threw the bird out, the bird flew to the top of our bus, and stayed there. The tigers were furious and chasing after our bus. And our stupid ...

Every time you post, Cen, I either have been there....or want to go there badly! Harbin was THE coldest place I've ever been. Painfully cold! Went to the ice-festival in '95, underdressed from Beijing! It was a smaller scale affair to what I see in your p...

I found my old itinerary from August 1979: HK to Beijing to Harbin to Shengyang to Shanghai to Hangzhou to Guangzhou to HK. As I recall, our group was amongst the first, if not the first, Western group to be allowed to visit Harbin. Well, its more than 30...

The ice carvings and buildings are magnificent. The real highlight for me were the photos of Siberian tigers. What amazing creatures. It's a pity there are so few of them left in the wild. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, Cen! Cheers, Daos
