The Seiko 'Wide Lug' ultra thin

Hey guys,

I thought I'd share a watch I just picked up!

This watch is the Seiko 6810-0010 or 'Wide Lug' from December 1973, and I've probably been searching for this actively for around 4-5 years.

The line of watches and the movement is not widely known outside vintage Seiko enthusiasts, but is a significant piece in Seiko's history. The watch houses a famous calibre of theirs - the 6810 ultra thin which has been one of their longest produced calibres in their history. The 68xx movement was first introduced in 1969 (at the same time as the Astron) and while it had a brief break during the quartz era, was brought back in the 90s and 2000s when Seiko decided to focus on mechanical watches again.

What makes this watch special is the thickness of the movement - 1.98mm! At the time, Seiko made this to complete with Piaget's ultra thin, and although debatable, many believe Seiko beat them. I took a photo of the watch with an Australian 20 cent coin for reference.

Thanks!

I love the case design. Also love the ultra thin movement

The watch may be old, but it’s new to me! :)

Thanks for sharing! The pursuit for thin watches has led to some interesting designs from both the Swiss and more recently, the Japanese. Always fun to see these.

You got an interesting and nice looking dress watch jrc396

Yes it's a really nice strap - a really deep blue croc I bought it off a friend, but my understanding was that it was a custom strap from Curious Curio in Japan. I know they have a website so it could be on there Thanks, Justin

Thanks a lot Justin!

A great piece indeed! 6810s are rare birds and yours is not one I have often seen before. Here’s my newer 6810-8000 saying hi ...
